It handles hot pans, it handles Ontario sun and it has a depth of colour that some buyers simply prefer.

We fabricate granite and engineered quartz in the same 20,000 sqft Toronto shop. That means our advice is about your kitchen, not what we have in stock. If quartz suits you better, we will say so. If granite does, we will help you choose a slab, tag it, lay out the pattern on screen and seal it properly on install day.

## Types of Granite We Fabricate

-   **Light granites.** Whites, creams and soft greys with fine speckle or gentle movement. Popular for bright Toronto kitchens. They show oil stains more readily, so sealing matters.
-   **Dark granites.** Blacks, deep greens and charcoals. They hide crumbs and stains well and look strong with a leathered finish.

## When Is Granite the Right Choice?

-   **Outdoor kitchens and barbecue stations.** Granite handles UV and freeze-thaw where quartz cannot.
-   **Heavy-heat cooking.** Bakers and serious home cooks who set hot pans down often.
-   **Natural stone preference.** Buyers who want a top no neighbour can copy.
-   **Budget natural stone.** Common granites sit at the lower end of our pricing.

## How We Fabricate Granite

**Slab tagging.** Granite varies so much that the slab you saw must be the slab we cut. We tag it by number at the yard.

**Layout on screen.** After Proliner templating, we overlay your template on a photo of the slab. You see where mineral clusters, veins and colour shifts will land and approve the layout before cutting.

**CNC cutting.** Our CNC bridge saws use diamond blades with water cooling. Edges are profiled on CNC so the ogee or bullnose is consistent along the full run.

**Seams and bookmatching.** Where a seam is needed, we bookmatch movement granites so the pattern mirrors across the joint and place the seam behind the range or at an inside corner.

**Sealing.** We apply a penetrating sealer on install day and run an absorption test so your resealing schedule fits your actual stone.

## Granite Care and Resealing

Wipe spills, especially oil, wine and citrus, within a reasonable time. Clean with mild soap and water. Avoid vinegar and harsh cleaners, which can wear down the sealer. Every few months, try the water-drop test: if water darkens the stone within a few minutes, reseal. Most granite needs resealing every 1-2 years.

## Replacing Old Granite

Dated granite from the 1990s and 2000s is one of the most common tops we remove. Stone removal is $150-$350 and we can install new granite, quartz or porcelain the same day. Marcus L. in Rosedale replaced dated granite in his master bath with Calacatta Nuvo quartz in a single day. See

### How much do granite countertops cost in Toronto?

Where a slab lands in that range depends on its grade and origin, the edge profile you choose and how many cutouts and seams your layout needs.

A typical 45 sqft kitchen comes to about $3,150-$6,300 in granite. Exotic granites with rare colour or heavy movement can sit above the range; we quote those per slab once you have chosen one. Stone removal is $150-$350, and laminate removal is included. You see every number before paying a deposit, and the deposit is only 25% at templating.

### Is granite better than quartz?

It depends on what you value. Granite is natural stone with one-of-a-kind patterning, it handles hot pans better and it works outdoors. Quartz is non-porous, never needs sealing and gives you consistent colour. Granite needs resealing every 1-2 years; quartz needs none. Many Scarborough and Markham clients pick granite for outdoor kitchens and heavy-cooking homes, and quartz for family kitchens that want low maintenance.

### How often does granite need sealing?

Most granite needs resealing every 1-2 years. Run the water-drop test: if a few drops darken the stone within a few minutes, it is time to reseal. We seal on install day and leave a schedule based on your slab. Homes with hard water in Scarborough and Markham may need it more often.

### Can I choose my own granite slab?

Yes, and we encourage it. Visit a GTA slab yard, pick the slab you like and we tag it by number. If you buy the slab yourself, our fabrication-only rate is $42-$68 per square foot.

### What is the difference between polished and leathered granite?

Polished granite has a glossy, reflective finish that deepens the colour. Leathered granite is brushed to a soft texture that hides fingerprints and water spots, and it suits darker stones. Both are fabricated the same way; leathered finishes are chosen at the slab yard.

### Does granite stain?

Unsealed granite can absorb oil and wine. Properly sealed granite resists most stains if you wipe spills within a reasonable time. Lighter granites show oil stains more than dark ones.

### Can granite be used outdoors in Toronto?

Yes. Granite handles UV and freeze-thaw cycles, so it is a good outdoor kitchen choice. We seal it on install and recommend checking it each spring.

### Which edges work best on granite?

Eased, bullnose and ogee are classic on granite. Mitred aprons can make a 3cm slab look thicker. We show edge samples on your CAD quote.

### Do you replace old granite countertops?

Yes. We remove old granite for $150-$350 depending on sink reconnection and install new granite or quartz the same day. In Rosedale we pulled 20-year granite from a master bath and set Calacatta Nuvo quartz in a single day.
