Countertop Edge Profiles in Toronto
Quartz countertops get most of the attention, but the edge is what your hands, hips and pots touch every day. Across Toronto, from modern Vaughan kitchens to traditional Markham homes, the edge you choose changes how the counter looks, how easy it is to clean and how well it resists chips.
We machine every edge on a CNC profiler. That means the ogee, mitred apron or bullnose you approved on the sample board matches along the full run, with no wavy spots where a hand router drifted. Then a Red Seal lead checks each edge for chip-out and polish before it leaves our 20,000 sqft shop.
The Seven Edge Profiles We Offer
| Profile | Look | Chip resistance | Cleaning | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eased | Clean square with softened corner | High | Easy | Included |
| Quarter bullnose | Rounded top corner, flat bottom | High | Easy | Included |
| Full bullnose | Fully rounded edge | Highest | Easy | Per linear foot |
| Mitred 45 | Thick apron, pattern wraps | Medium | Easy | Per linear foot |
| Ogee | Classic S-curve | Medium | Moderate | Per linear foot |
| Dupont | Step-down into bullnose | Medium | Moderate | Per linear foot |
| Chiseled | Rough, hand-split texture | High | Harder | Per linear foot |
Eased
A square edge with a small radius on the top and bottom corners. Clean, modern and chip-resistant. Our default for most quartz kitchens.
Quarter bullnose
The top corner is rounded and the bottom stays square. Softer to the touch than eased, still simple to clean.
Full bullnose
The edge is rounded top and bottom. The most chip-resistant and child-friendly profile.
Mitred 45
A strip of stone joined at 45 degrees to create a thick apron, often 2 inches or more, with the vein wrapping around. The same technique makes waterfall legs. See kitchen island countertops.
Ogee
A classic S-shaped curve. Traditional and decorative, popular with granite and marble.
Dupont
A small step down from the top, then a bullnose curve. Formal and decorative.
Chiseled
A rough, split-stone texture that suits rustic bars and natural stone.
Which Edge Suits Your Material?
Engineered quartz. Any profile works. Eased and mitred aprons are the most popular. See quartz countertops.
Porcelain. Use a mitred edge. Porcelain’s pattern is mostly on the surface, so a polished straight edge shows the plain body. See porcelain countertops.
Granite and quartzite. Ogee, bullnose and eased all work well. Their hardness holds a crisp profile.
Marble. Eased or bullnose. Marble is softer, so rounded edges resist chips better.
Edge Pricing
Eased and quarter bullnose edges are included in our installed per-sqft pricing. Full bullnose, ogee, dupont, chiseled and mitred aprons are priced per linear foot and listed on your CAD estimate, so you see the cost before deposit. Waterfall mitres are quoted as part of the island.
How We Machine Edges
- Profile selection. You pick the edge for each surface; we mark it on the Proliner template.
- CNC profiling. The CNC profiler shapes and polishes the edge in several passes with progressively finer polishing wheels.
- Mitre assembly. For mitred aprons, the strip and top are cut at exact 45-degree angles, joined with tinted epoxy and clamped.
- Inspection. Every edge is checked for chip-out, polish consistency and alignment.
Edge Choice Tips
- Busy family kitchen: eased or quarter bullnose.
- Island with stools: eased or bullnose to protect forearms.
- Modern look with thickness: mitred apron.
- Traditional cabinets: ogee or dupont.
- Rustic bar: chiseled.
