Porcelain Countertops Toronto, ON

Porcelain countertops give Port Credit backyards and Forest Hill range walls the Calacatta look with heat and UV stability that quartz countertops in Toronto cannot match, which is why large-format porcelain is our default for outdoor kitchens.

Porcelain Countertops in Toronto

Quartz countertops are the right answer for most Toronto kitchens, but not for every surface. Put engineered quartz in a sunny Port Credit backyard and the resin yellows. Put it behind a hard-working range in Forest Hill and a hot pan can scorch it. Large-format porcelain solves both. It has the Calacatta look people want, it handles heat and UV and it barely absorbs water, so Ontario winters do not crack it.

We fabricate large-format Calacatta porcelain, Dekton, Neolith and Caesarstone Porcelain in our 20,000 sqft Toronto shop. Porcelain behaves differently from quartz on the saw, so we use tension-release cutting, mitre the edges to hide the thin body and always install over full, flat support.

Types of Porcelain Countertops

  • Large-format Calacatta porcelain. Bright white with bold veining, the most requested look. Installed at $90-$150/sqft.
  • Dekton by Cosentino. Sintered stone in matte, polished and textured finishes, strong in darker and concrete-look designs.
  • Neolith. Sintered stone with marble, stone and solid designs, popular for vanities and feature walls.
  • Caesarstone Porcelain. Caesarstone’s porcelain line, useful when you want to pair it with Caesarstone quartz elsewhere in the house.

12mm vs 20mm

12mm slabs are lighter and look sleek. We mitre a drop apron on the edge to give a thicker look without the weight. 20mm slabs are stiffer and suit longer spans, islands and outdoor kitchens.

When Should You Choose Porcelain?

Outdoor kitchens. Porcelain colour is fired in, so UV does not change it. It handles freeze-thaw and grill heat. It is our default for Port Credit and Bronte backyards.

Range walls and cooking zones. Full-height porcelain behind a gas range takes heat and grease and wipes clean.

Thin, modern looks. A 12mm slab with a mitred apron gives a crisp, architectural edge.

Feature walls and fireplaces. Large slabs mean fewer joints over big areas.

If you mainly want low maintenance indoors, quartz countertops are easier to fabricate and repair. If you want a natural stone outdoors, consider granite countertops.

How We Fabricate Porcelain

Tension release. Porcelain stores internal tension from firing. If you cut a sink opening in the wrong order, the slab can crack across the cutout. We make relief cuts first, then complete the shape.

Mitred edges. The pattern on porcelain sits mostly on the surface. A straight polished edge shows the plain body. We mitre the edge on CNC so the pattern wraps around. Our edge profiles page shows the options.

Supported install. Porcelain must sit on full, flat support with no voids. Outdoors, we check that the frame is level and rigid before templating.

Seams. Large slabs often mean fewer seams. Where one is needed, we match the pattern and place it away from the cooktop.

Caring for Porcelain

Porcelain needs no sealing. Clean with mild soap and water or a non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid dropping heavy pots on the edges. Outdoors, cover the grill cutout over winter and clear snow with a plastic shovel, not metal.

Why Choose Quartz Countertops Toronto for Porcelain Countertops?

Every claim below is backed by a spec, a price or a named project.

Right material outdoors

We steer outdoor kitchens to porcelain because quartz resin yellows in sun. Nadia H. in Port Credit appreciated the honesty.

Tension-release technique

Porcelain stores tension from firing. Relief cuts in the right order prevent cracks at cutouts.

Mitred edges

We mitre porcelain aprons so the pattern wraps the edge and the thin body never shows.

Heat at the range

Porcelain handles hot pans and range-wall heat without scorching, a common quartz problem.

Dekton and Neolith experience

We fabricate the major sintered stone brands with the same CNC and Red Seal oversight.

Freeze-thaw stable

Near-zero water absorption means Ontario winters do not crack it.

What Clients Say About Our Porcelain Work

"We wanted quartz for the outdoor kitchen in our Port Credit backyard and they talked us out of it, which I respect. Quartz resin yellows in full sun, so they quoted large-format porcelain instead. Twenty-two feet of counter, a grill cutout and a mitred apron, $9,800. One winter in and it still looks new."
Nadia H.| Mississauga (Port Credit)
"Caesarstone 5141 Frosty Carrina on our Lawrence Park kitchen island looks exactly like the showroom sample. Seam behind the range is invisible."
Alex T.| Lawrence Park
"Templated our Danforth Village kitchen Tuesday, installed Friday. Family of five back cooking in two days."

Porcelain Countertops FAQs

Are porcelain countertops good for outdoor kitchens in Toronto?

Yes, they are our first choice for outdoor kitchens. Large-format porcelain has near-zero water absorption, so it handles Ontario freeze-thaw cycles, and its colour is fired into the material, so UV does not yellow it the way it yellows the resin in engineered quartz. It also handles the heat from a built-in grill.

Our Port Credit project shows the result: 22 feet of large-format porcelain counter with a grill cutout and a mitred apron, $9,800, still looking new after its first winter. We recommend a covered or partly shaded area where possible, a supported frame under the slab and a cover over the grill cutout in winter. Granite is the other good outdoor option if you prefer natural stone.

How much do porcelain countertops cost in Toronto?

Installed Calacatta porcelain runs $90-$150 per square foot, including Proliner templating, tension-release cutting, a mitred or eased edge, one cutout and installation. A 45 sqft kitchen lands around $4,050-$6,750. Dekton and Neolith collections are quoted inside this range.

What is the difference between porcelain, Dekton and Neolith?

All three are sintered or porcelain surfaces made from clays, minerals and pigments fired at very high heat. Dekton is made by Cosentino, Neolith by TheSize, and Calacatta porcelain slabs come from several Italian and Spanish makers. They perform similarly; the choice usually comes down to design, finish and slab size.

Should I choose 12mm or 20mm porcelain?

12mm slabs are lighter and look sleek, and we mitre the edge to give a thicker look. 20mm slabs are stiffer and suit islands and outdoor kitchens with longer spans. We recommend based on your layout and support.

Does porcelain chip?

Porcelain is very hard on the surface but its edges can chip from a heavy impact. Mitred or slightly eased edges reduce the risk, which is why we avoid sharp square edges on porcelain.

Can porcelain go behind a range?

Yes. Full-height porcelain range walls are one of our most popular uses because porcelain handles heat and wipes clean. Our Forest Hill range wall is a good example.

Is porcelain better than quartz?

For heat and outdoor use, yes. For edge toughness and repairability, quartz is easier. Indoors, both are low maintenance; the choice is often about look and budget.

Does porcelain need sealing?

No. Porcelain is non-porous and needs no sealing. Clean it with mild soap and water.

Can porcelain handle an outdoor kitchen in Mississauga or Oakville?

Yes. It is our default for Port Credit and Bronte backyard kitchens near the lake, where sun and freeze-thaw are hardest on materials.
