Marble Countertops in Toronto
Quartz countertops cover most of the kitchens we build in Toronto, but marble remains the stone people fall for. Real Carrara, Calacatta and Statuario have a depth and veining that no engineered surface fully copies, and we see more of it every year in High Park powder rooms, Rosedale ensuites and Forest Hill fireplace surrounds.
Marble also asks something of you. It is softer than granite and quartz, and it etches when acids touch it. We fabricate marble and engineered quartz under one roof, so our job is to help you decide where marble will make you happy for decades and where a Calacatta-look quartz will save you worry. Then we fabricate it carefully, book-match the veins and seal it properly.
Types of Marble We Fabricate
| Marble | Background | Veining | Where it shines |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carrara | Grey-white | Soft, feathery grey | Vanities, backsplashes, budget-friendly marble kitchens |
| Calacatta | Bright white | Bold, thick, grey or gold | Statement islands, feature walls |
| Statuario | Very white | Dramatic grey | Fireplace surrounds, luxury vanities |
Honed vs polished marble
Honed marble has a matte surface. It hides etches, scratches and water marks far better, and it feels soft to the touch. We recommend it for most kitchens.
Polished marble is glossy. It makes the veining pop and reflects light, but etches show as dull patches. It suits vanities, fireplaces and low-traffic surfaces.
Is Marble Right for Your Kitchen?
Marble is calcium carbonate. When acids like lemon, wine, vinegar or tomato touch it, they react with the surface and leave a dull etch. Sealer slows staining, but it cannot stop etching. That is chemistry, not a fabrication flaw.
Marble works in a kitchen if you:
- Like a lived-in patina that develops over years
- Choose a honed finish
- Bake often and want a naturally cool surface for pastry
- Are happy to wipe acids promptly and reseal every 6-12 months
Choose quartz countertops instead if you want a pristine look with no maintenance. Caesarstone 5131 Calacatta Nuvo is the look-alike our clients compare most often, and we show it next to real Calacatta so you can see both in your own light.
Marble Countertop Pricing
We do not publish a per-sqft tier for marble, because slab prices for Carrara, Calacatta and Statuario range widely by quality, size and origin. We quote per slab once you have chosen one at a GTA yard. For reference:
| Project | Material | Size | Installed price |
|---|---|---|---|
| High Park powder room | Carrara marble vanity | 7 sqft, inside corner | $1,450 |
| Calacatta-look alternative | Caesarstone Calacatta Nuvo | Per sqft | $110 - $180 / sqft |
| Fabrication only | Your marble slab | Per sqft | $42 - $68 / sqft |
You pay 25% at templating, 50% at fabrication start and the balance on install day.
How We Fabricate Marble
Fissure check. Marble often has natural fissures. Our Red Seal lead inspects every slab before cutting and flags any that might crack during fabrication.
Vein layout. After Proliner templating, we plan where the veins run on your counter and book-match across seams so they mirror like an open book.
Waterjet and CNC. Our waterjet cuts delicate shapes and inside corners without the chipping a dry saw can cause. Edges are profiled on CNC and finished honed or polished.
Sealing. We apply a penetrating sealer on install day and leave care instructions specific to your finish.
Marble for Vanities and Bathrooms
Bathrooms see far fewer acids than kitchens, so marble vanities are an easy yes for most clients. Sarah K. in High Park chose a Carrara vanity for her powder room with a complicated inside-corner template, and it fit on the first visit. For full bathroom work, including shower benches and thresholds, see bathroom countertop installation.
Marble vs Quartzite vs Quartz
Some buyers who love marble but fear etching look at quartzite, a natural stone that is harder and more etch-resistant. Be careful: some stone sold as quartzite is actually soft marble or dolomite. We test slabs before you buy. See quartzite countertops for how.
Marble Care
- Wipe acids (lemon, wine, vinegar, tomato) promptly.
- Use pH-neutral stone cleaner or mild soap. Never vinegar or bleach.
- Use coasters under glasses and trivets under pans.
- Reseal every 6-12 months in kitchens, about yearly on vanities.
- Light etches can be honed out on site.
